Dominant Debut In Seoul
Julie Goerges, Polona Hercog

Two unseeded teams were triumphant in this week's Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles events, and for the second straight week, both victorious duos captured their first titles together.

Julia Goerges and Polona Hercog concluded their first outing with a 63 64 win over No.4 seeds Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova in Sunday's final at the Hansol Korea Open in Seoul. Goerges now has three career doubles titles to her credit, including two this year (the other one in 2010 coming in Copenhagen alongside Anna-Lena Groenefeld). Hercog now has two doubles titles to her credit, the other one coming earlier this year in Acapulco alongside Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Saturday's Tashkent Open final saw Alexandra Panova and Tatiana Poutchek defeat fellow unseeded team Alexandra Dulgheru and Magdalena Rybarikova, also 63 64. In their only previous outing together, they reached the semifinals of Istanbul this summer. This was Panova's first Tour title of any kind. As for Poutchek, it was her seventh career doubles title, and remarkably, five of them have come in Tashkent alongside five different partners. (2002, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010).

Meanwhile, the Race to the WTA Championships - Doha 2010 is heating up, with Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta having clinched one of the four available spots and Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik and Serena and Venus Williams looking like likely qualifiers. That leaves Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs and Yaroslava Shvedova and Vania King as the two teams most likely to compete for the final spot. Both of those duos are in the draw in Tokyo next week.
