With four women's tennis greats in the mix, WTT Smash Hits raised over $500,000 for AIDS.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA - The world's biggest tennis stars rallied for charity at WTT Smash Hits presented by GEICO on Monday night, raising over $500,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Washington AIDS Partnership.

In its 18 years, WTT Smash Hits has raised over $10 million for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and local charities throughout the US. A large portion of this year's money raised came even before the tennis event began - an on-court live auction raised $267,000, with the items including two popular Billie Jean King Wimbledon packages, a hitting session with Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, a French Open package and two Elton John-signed piano benches.

Longtime friends Billie Jean King and Elton John captained two teams of players and faced off in a modified World TeamTennis match, playing one set of men's singles, one set of women's doubles, one set of men's doubles and two sets of mixed doubles. John and Martina Navratilova started off with a 4-1 win over Agassi and Graf; Agassi and Jan-Michael Gambill followed with a 5-4 win over Mark Philippoussis and Eric Butorac; Graf and Anna Kournikova then beat Navratilova and Rennae Stubbs, 5-3; then, in the men's singles match, Philippoussis beat Agassi, 5-3. The night finished with Agassi and Kournikova fighting off Philippoussis and Navratilova, 5-4. The final result was Team Billie Jean King beating Team Elton John, 19-15, evening their head-to-head, 9-9.
