Black, Huber Excel With New Partners
Anastasia Rodionova, Cara Black

MELBOURNE, Australia - After Cara Black and Liezel Huber's legendary doubles partnership, which yielded 29 titles and four Grand Slams, dissolved last spring, each of them has played with a variety of partners in pursuit of duplicating similar success that they had with each other.

Based on their play late last year and so far this year, they may each have finally settled on someone with whom to form a dynamic duo, Huber alongside Nadia Petrova and Black alongside Anastasia Rodionova. Neither team has dropped a set through the first two rounds of the Australian Open, with third-seeded Huber and Petrova disposing of Eleni Daniilidou and Kaia Kanepi, 63 63, in second round action Friday, and fifth-seeded Black and Rodionova getting past Sorana Cirstea and Lucie Safarova, 64 75. If both duos win their next match, it would set up a compelling quarterfinal in which they would square off with each other.

So, how has Huber performed with Petrova compared to her eight other partners since her separation from Black, and how has Black performed with Rodionova compared with her six other partners since her separation from Huber?

Duo Record Titles
Huber & Petrova 17-5, 77.3% 1
Huber & Others 21-10, 67.7% 1
Black & Rodionova 11-6, 64.7% 0
Black & Others 14-8, 63.6% 1

In other Friday matches of note, No.1 seeds Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta cruised in straight sets, as did No.6 seeds Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, however, No.4 seeds Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez were upset by Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Patty Schnyder.
