MELBOURNE, Australia - Doubles legends Cara Black and Liezel Huber had competed against one another 12 times with various partners before their quarterfinal showdown at the Australian Open, with Black dominating the series, winning nine of them, including four straight.

However, on Tuesday, Huber turned the tides, as she and Nadia Petrova eliminated Black and Anastasia Rodionova, 61 64. Black, who has spent the second most weeks in WTA history as the top-ranked doubles player, and Huber, who has spent the third most, dissolved their legendary partnership that produced 29 titles, including four Grand Slams, last spring. Since then, they've had varying degrees of success with different partners (Black is now 26-15 since the split, while Huber is 40-15), but Huber has been more successful in majors.

In Wednesday's semifinals, third-seeded Huber and Petrova will take on Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta, whose straight set quarterfinal win over Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova assured them of remaining the top-ranked doubles team in the world regardless of who wins the Australian Open. Neither team in that semifinal match-up has dropped a set all fortnight.

The other semifinal will see No.2 seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik battle No.12 seeds Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko. Peschke and Srebotnik were straight set winners over Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy, whom they were upset by in the round of 16 at last year's US Open, and Azarenka and Kirilenko edged Chuang Chia-Jung and Hsieh Su-Wei in three sets.
