BOGOTÁ, Colombia - Five years ago on these courts, Lourdes Domínguez Lino won her first WTA title. It was the shining moment of her career, and later that year she was Top 40. In the years that followed, things weren't as bright. She spent most of it in the Top 100 but last June fell as low as No.183.

Things didn't look good for the Spaniard, but she kept plugging away. In the second half of the season she put together some good results on the ITF Circuit and recorded her equal-best Grand Slam result, a third round showing at the US Open. She got to the second round of the Australian Open this year and coming into her best tournament this week was a solid No.77 in the world.

Seeded No.7 at the XIX Copa BBVA Colsanitas, Domínguez Lino showed her affinity for the clay courts of Bogotá, racing through to the semifinals without losing a set. She gained a reprieve in the semifinals as Petra Martic pulled out due to GI illness, and Mathilde Johansson awaited in the final.

Johansson, unseeded and a first-time WTA finalist, had beaten No.5 seed Carla Suárez Navarro in the semifinals and came out firing against Domínguez Lino, taking the first set, 6-2, in 34 minutes. But Domínguez Lino wasn't about to let go of things, using her big topspin ground game to outlast the Frenchwoman, 26 63 62, and win her second WTA title. The 29-year-old threw her arms in the air.

"It was a very difficult match today. She started very well and I didn't feel comfortable or in control of anything," Domínguez Lino said. "But then she started making a few errors and little by little I was getting back into the match. Maybe she was nervous; I was very calm. It was a special feeling to win."

Domínguez Lino has been playing in Bogotá every year since 2000. "The people and the crowd here are great. I love coming back here every year - this was my 12th year in a row here, which says everything. I feel at peace here."

In the doubles final on Saturday, Edina Gallovits-Hall and Anabel Medina Garrigues saved two match points - one at 6-5 in the second set tie-break, one at 9-8 in the match tie-break - to beat Sharon Fichman and Laura Pous-Tio, 26 76(6) 119. It was Gallovits-Hall's third WTA doubles title and Medina Garrigues' 17th. It was their first WTA title as a partnership.
