ACAPULCO, México - Lourdes Domínguez Lino is having quite a fortnight on the red clay, starting with her march to the championships in Bogotá last week for her second career title. That resulted in her rising to No.51 in the world, her highest ranking in about four years.

Domínguez Lino had a tough draw for her opener at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL, though, having to square off with 2010 Acapulco runner-up Polona Hercog, who at No.50, is ranked higher than anyone the Spaniard had to play in Bogotá. However, Domínguez Lino appears to be a different player than the one who had only one won match this year before last week, racing out to a 5-2 first set lead Tuesday despite dropping the first two games and a 4-2 third set lead in eliminating the second-seeded Hercog, 63 46 63.

"I feel like I'm playing well right now," Domínguez Lino said. "Coming from my win in Bogotá was a little difficult with the travel, but so far I feel good and have been able to continue winning."

Domínguez Lino has tied her personal record for most consecutive main draw victories with five, having also done so at Bogotá in 2006. She will try to break that record in her next match against Pauline Parmentier.

Another Bogotá success story, Mathilde Johansson, also stayed hot, knocking off No.8 seed Olga Govortsova, 62 76(4). The Frenchwoman had her career best result last week, going all the way to the final before dropping a three-setter to Domínguez Lino. No.5 seed Simona Halep was also sent home, falling to Laura Pous-Tio, 63 67(4) 63. No.3 seed Greta Arn, No.4 seed Gisela Dulko and No.7 seed Carla Suárez Navarro made sure the day wasn't a total loss for seeded players, all advancing in straight sets.

Wednesday's action will be highlighted by No.1 seed Julia Goerges taking on Anabel Medina Garrigues.
