PARIS, France - Success at the Roland Garros junior event is no guarantee of future success at the women's event. In fact, only five players have won both - Françoise Durr (before the Open Era), Mima Jausovec, Hana Mandlikova, Jennifer Capriati and Justine Henin. Will there be a sixth this year? Of the nine former French Open junior champions in the draw at the start of the fortnight, only Agnieszka Radwanska and Kaia Kanepi are still alive.
None of the recent junior champs have come very close to winning the women's event, but several of them have made some noise. Here are the last 10 junior champs and their best results at the women's event to date:
|2001-2010 Junior Champs||Best Showing At Women's Event|
|Kaia Kanepi||QF in '08|
|Angelique Widjaja||2R in '02|
|Anna-Lena Groenefeld||QF in '06|
|Sesil Karatantcheva||QF in '05|
|Agnes Szavay||R16 in '09|
|Agnieszka Radwanska||R16 in '08, '09|
|Alizé Cornet||3R in '08|
|Simona Halep||2R in '11|
|Kristina Mladenovic||1R in '09, '10, '11|
|Elina Svitolina||1R Qualifying in '11|
Notes: Groenefeld ended fan favorite Amélie Mauresmo's French Open career with a first round upset in 2009 ... Karatantcheva surprised Venus Williams in the third round in 2005 en route to her best result here ... Szavay also upset Williams en route to her best showing in 2009 ... If Radwanska wins her third round clash with Yanina Wickmayer, she will tie her career-best result here.
