'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands - Just three main draw matches were on the schedule as the Unicef Open made a Sunday start, and already one of the seeds has been sent packing. Eighth-seeded Klara Zakopalova, the champion here in 2005 and runner-up in 2004, was beaten by crafty Belgian wildcard Kirsten Flipkens, 63 62.

Zakopalova wasn't the only former titlist to make an early exit; though not an on-paper upset, Anna Chakvetadze's 64 61 defeat by clay court specialist Lourdes Domínguez Lino was perhaps something of a surprise. That said, the Spanish veteran has been in good form this year, winning a title at Fès, whereas Chakvetadze, who triumphed at this Wimbledon warm-up in 2007, has been struggling to find her Top 10 form.

After a slow start, Dominika Cibulkova powered past Simona Halep in straight sets, 63 60. Halep led 3-0 in the first set before fifth-seeded Cibulkova reeled off 12 games in a row to advance to the second round; across the match the diminutive Slovak pounced on her Romanian opponent's second serve, winning 14 of 17 such points (82%).

The final round of qualifying was also completed on Sunday, with Romina Oprandi, Akgul Amanmuradova, young Dutch star Arantxa Rus - conqueror of Kim Clijsters at Roland Garros - and Belgian teenager Alison Van Uytvanck all securing main draw berths.

World No.2 Clijsters, who is top seed at the $220,000 event, plays her first round match on Monday against tricky Romanian Monica Niculescu. Earlier in the day, Rus takes on No.2 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, while No.3 seed Yanina Wickmayer opens her campaign against Alberta Brianti.
