Olga Govortsova and Alla Kudryavtseva overcame an unusual situation to win the title at the AEGON Classic on Sunday in Birmingham.

With the grass courts covered to protect them from rain, second-seeded Govortsova and Kudryavtseva and third-seeded Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci agreed to play the final on indoor hardcourts because they had flights to catch and could not wait until Monday to decide the victors. After splitting the first two sets, Govortsova and Kudryavtseva jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the match tie-break, lost three straight points, then won five straight to clinch the match, 16 61 105.

Prior to this year, Govortsova and Kudryavtseva had paired up eight times, never getting beyond the quarterfinals of an event, but now they already have two titles in just five events in 2011, having also won Memphis in February. This was Govortsova's sixth career doubles title and Kudryavtseva's fourth.

Meanwhile, another second-seeded duo also captured a title on Sunday, as Johanna Larsson and Jasmin Woehr defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Katarzyna Piter, 63 63 in the final of the e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open in Copenhagen. Larsson and Woehr did not drop a set all week en route to their first title in their third career event together.

"It was a fantastic week," said Larsson, who now has two career doubles titles to her name while Woehr has four. "I want to thank my partner. I think I chose the best one. I also want to thank everybody who was involved in the tournament. I had a great week and I hope to come back next year."

"They played really well today, so well done girls," Piter said. "You deserved to win today. Congratulations to you guys. We will learn something from you."

Mladenovic and Piter were paired up for the first time this week, and this was the first career doubles final for both.
