Quotable Quotes... Zvonareva On Baku
Vera Zvonareva

BAKU, Azerbaijan - World No.3 Vera Zvonareva is the star name at the inaugural Baku Cup this week. Here's a taste of what she has said to the press after her hard-fought first round victory on Tuesday night.

On the tournament...
"I'm really surprised because this is the first time the tournament is being held and the organization is at a high level. Not only me but all of us players are really excited about it. The overall atmosphere of the tournament is really good. I would be glad playing here again if my schedule allows me to - next year will be the Olympics and it's hard to fit tournaments into the schedule though."

On Baku...
"I like the city a lot. It has changed a lot since the last time I was here. It's even more beautiful than it was before."

On the hot conditions in Baku...
"I've been on the tour in Malaysia, Thailand, Australia... we are professionals and are used to it. Of course the weather influences the equipment and the court and it takes a little bit of time to get used to it, but we know what to do."

On how she has been feeling since a third round loss at Wimbledon...
"I was injured during Wimbledon and it took me a long time to get back in shape, and it has been really hard to switch between grass courts and the hardcourts. But everything is gong well now."

On whether she can win the tournament this week...
"Those who are left are really good players and the competition is very high. No matter who is playing against me I'm playing 100%."

The 26-year-old Zvonareva has already put together an incredible tennis resume, winning 11 WTA titles (including Premier-level titles at Indian Wells in 2009 and Doha earlier this year) and reaching another 16 WTA finals (including Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open last year). She reached a career-high of No.2 last year. She has won three Grand Slams in doubles, one in women's doubles (the 2006 US Open with Nathalie Dechy) and two in mixed (the 2004 US Open with Bob Bryan and 2006 Wimbledon with Andy Ram).
