CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka's results have tailed off since their stunning run to the French Open title earlier this summer, having fallen in the first round of Eastbourne and Wimbledon.

However, the seventh-seeded Czechs returned to their winning ways Tuesday in the first round of the Western & Southern Open with a 64 75 win over Alberta Brianti and Alexandra Dulgheru, rallying from a break down in each set. Next up for Hlavackova and Hradecka are Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova.

The other seeded team in action was No.5 seeds Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, fresh off the first title of their partnership in Toronto last week. The Americans kicked off their Rogers Cup title run by beating Monica Niculescu and Shahar Peer, and a week later beat them again, 61 63. In the second round they will take on Eleni Daniilidou and Polona Hercog, who got past Daniela Hantuchova and Sabine Lisicki, 36 61 108.

Also advancing with triumphs in match tie-breaks were Julia Goerges and Svetlana Kuznetsova, Ekaterina Makarova and Zheng JieKlaudia Jans-Ignacik and Alicja Rosolska and Alexa Glatch and Christina McHale. Glatch and McHale may have had the most dramatic victory of the day, as they overcame a match point at 8-9 in the match tie-break of their 76(2) 06 1210 defeat of María José Martínez Sánchez and Anabel Medina Garrigues.

Goerges and Kuznetsova will square off with No.4 seeds Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova in one of Wednesday's featured doubles matches. The Russians have only played four career events together, but captured two of them, one of which was here in 2008.
