CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik had the most dominating performance of the doubles quarterfinal winners Thursday at the Western & Southern Open.

The top-seeded Peschke and Srebotnik made short work of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, 62 62. They are now 5-0 all-time against the Italians, the most wins they have against any duo during their partnership. They also have an impressive history against their semifinal opponents, Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova, winning 61 63 in both previous encounters.

Grandin and Uhlirova reached the final four with a 75 57 102 upset of No.4 seeds Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova. It was just the second loss in 12 career matches for the Russians, who won this event in 2008.

The bottom half of the draw also featured a surprise, as Ekaterina Makarova and Zheng Jie survived second-seeded Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta, 64 57 107. Makarova and Zheng, playing their first career event together this week, had a match point at 5-4 in the second set, but were unable to close it out. However, they did not let that missed opportunity bother them, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the match tie-break and held on.

"Bad day in doubles. Again lost in a super tie-break," Dulko tweeted. "Will keep working hard for the most important tournament, the US Open."

Next up for Makarova and Zheng are No.3 seeds Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova, who beat No.5 seeds Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, 76(5) 64.

"Came up a little short tonight but it's been a good few weeks," tweeted Raymond, whose summer partnering with Huber has included a title in Toronto and runner-up showing in Stanford. "Heading home tomorrow, then NYC next week. Looking forward to it!"
