SEOUL, South Korea - Her unique mix of power and variety in full bloom, Yaroslava Shvedova cruised past Tamarine Tanasugarn and into the second round of the $220,000 Hansol Korea Open on Tuesday afternoon.

Shvedova, who finished 2010 at No.39 but missed the start of 2011 with a knee injury and is now down at No.220, has found her range in a big way this week, rolling through three rounds of qualifying - winning two with double bagels, the first two double bagel wins of her career - before defeating Tanasugarn, 62 60.

"It has already been some time since I last played singles," said Shvedova, who was a doubles finalist at the US Open but had not taken the singles court since the qualifying of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. "I just got a new coach and he has been giving me a lot of good advice. He has really helped a lot and I feel I've been playing better and better since coming to Seoul."

Shvedova, who won her first WTA doubles title with Tanasugarn, won nine games in a row from 3-2 in the first set to seal victory in just 56 minutes. It was a contrast to their last meeting at Wimbledon, where the Thai won, 62 63.

Next up for Shvedova is No.4 seed Dominika Cibulkova, who won her first round match on Monday. Cibulkova leads the pair's head-to-head, 2-1.

"I didn't know I was going to play her - I didn't look at the draw," Shvedova added. "No matter who is on the other side, I always hope to play my best."

Also among the early winners at the Hansol Korea Open on Tuesday were Iveta Benesova, Carla Suárez Navarro and Vania King, Shvedova's loyal doubles partner and fellow US Open doubles finalist. King beat the tournament's 2009 champion, Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm, 62 62.
