SEOUL, South Korea - The Top 2 seeds departed in the early rounds and on Friday a complete sweep of the Top 4 seeds was completed, as Julia Goerges and Dominika Cibulkova were both bundled out of the Hansol Korea Open.

Cibulkova, the No.4 seed, was the first to go, racing out to a 3-1 lead but losing 11 of the next 12 games to lose to No.5 seed Polona Hercog, 63 61. Hercog finished the match fiercely, winning the last 10 points to close it out.

Hercog had won only three games in their only prior meeting at Wimbledon earlier this year. "It was really tough to play her on grass. She moves so fast and the ball bounces so low, so she is very dangerous," Hercog said. "She's one of the best movers in women's tennis. It wasn't easy to finish the points. I hit with more topspin so it bounced higher on her and mix up my shots."

Goerges, the No.3 seed, was the next to go, falling to No.6 seed María José Martínez Sánchez, 76(6) 61. Goerges was up a break twice in the first set - including serving for it at 6-5 - and saved three set points in the tie-break, but the Spanish veteran closed it out and rolled through the second set.

Next up for Martínez Sánchez will be Klara Zakopalova, a 62 46 61 winner over Vania King, while Hercog will face Galina Voskoboeva, a 62 63 winner over Vera Dushevina. King had taken out No.2 seed Marion Bartoli earlier in the week, while Dushevina had upset No.1 seed Francesca Schiavone.

Voskoboeva and Dushevina are playing doubles together this week.

"I'm friends with Vera and we play doubles together, but we had to forget about it when we went on the court," the 26-year-old Voskoboeva said. "Vera had a 4-1 record against me but the last match we played was pretty close, we went to three sets. I just focused on each ball and didn't think about it."

The forehand was particularly strong from Voskoboeva. "Yes, my forehand is definitely my best shot," the Russian-born Kazakh said. "It's a very good shot naturally and I'm also working on it very hard. I can say it's my weapon."

Both semifinals take place Saturday. Zakopalova leads Martínez Sánchez in their head-to-head, 2-0, while the other semifinal is a first-time meeting.
