HOBART, Australia - The crowds at the Moorilla Hobart International will welcome back their defending champion in January, as Australian No.2 Jarmila Gajdosova has been confirmed for the 2012 edition of the $220,000 event.

Gajdosova, who won the second WTA title of her career in Hobart 11 months ago by beating American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the final, ended up putting together her first Top 40 season in 2011, finishing at No.33 in the world.

"I'm really excited about coming back to Hobart, and after my success this year I hope to perform well in early January," Gajdosova said. "The crowds are so supportive in Hobart. I really enjoy playing out there on the centre court."

Groth's 2011 highlight was the Hobart title but she also had a number of other shining moments, including a semifinal and three quarterfinals. Also, having been 0-17 in her career against Top 20 players beforehand, she scored her first two Top 10 wins (over Sam Stosur and Francesca Schiavone) and a Top 20 win (over then-No.11 Agnieszka Radwanska). She set a career-high of No.25 in May and finished the year as Australia's No.2 player, behind Stosur.

Mark Handley, Tournament Director of the Moorilla Hobart International, is thrilled to welcome Gajdosova back to defend her title. "Jarmila has had another impressive year and there is no doubt she is in contention to win the title again next year," he commented. "Watching her play here in Hobart will inspire and entertain the young sporting fans and loyal tennis community."

Ongoing support from the local community has seen the tournament continue to grow over its 19 years, allowing it to become Tasmania's premier sporting event. Former champions include a slew of players who have cracked the Top 10 - Julie Halard-Decugis, Dominique Monami, Patty Schnyder, Chanda Rubin, Kim Clijsters, Alicia Molik, Anna Chakvetadze and Petra Kvitova.
