Published December 27, 2011 12:00
Some call it the off-season and some call it the pre-season, but for everyone it's the space between. Over the next few weeks you will find out what the stars of the WTA have been doing since the 2011 season ended, as 2012 nears...
Next up, half of the world's No.1 doubles team, Katarina Srebotnik...
Did you manage to relax and enjoy some time off?
"I actually only had two days off after Istanbul as I very soon started with some physical tests and preparation for the new season."
What is your daily regimen in the off-season?
"I was in Dubai for several weeks, preparing in a nice and warm weather. In the first few weeks the priority was physical workout, then tennis also came into the schedule. I have about two or three practice sessions per day."
What activities, aside from tennis, have you been doing?
"There is not much time for other sports activities, but I do take time to swim."
Are you working with the same fitness team this year?
"Yes, the same as always!"
Why is pre-season training so important for a tennis player?
"It keeps you fit for a longer period, plus it prevents you from major injuries. When the season starts you still need to maintain your physical preparation, otherwise you may lose it very quickly."
What are you most looking forward to about the 2012 season?
"I want to start competing again. Of course the winning part is the nicest and that's why I do all this hard working out in the off-season!"
