MELBOURNE, Australia - Playing their eighth career Grand Slam together, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci matched their best ever result in reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals with a defeat of Daniela Hantuchova and Agnieszka Radwanska on Monday.

Errani and Vinci's only previous quarterfinal appearance at a major occurred at least year's US Open, where they happened to lose to Hantuchova and Radwanska, so their 64 62 triumph over the No.8 seeds here was a measure of revenge. Next up for the 11th-seeded Italians are Russians Alla Kudryavtseva and Ekaterina Makarova. Interestingly enough, both Errani and Makarova were also victorious in singles Monday to advance to their first ever Grand Slam singles quarterfinals.

No.6 seeds Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina were 75 63 winners over No.12 seeds Jarmila Gajdosova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Their quarterfinal match against No.2 seeds Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond will feature the only two remaining teams yet to drop a set.

Seventh-seeded Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka topped Rika Fujiwara and Ayumi Morita, 63 36 62, the seventh straight win for the Czechs, who won Auckland earlier this month. A showdown with third-seeded Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova looms.

Playing in their second event together after having won Hobart earlier this month, Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu beat Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova when Kirilenko had to retire trailing 3-0 in the first set because of a left leg muscle injury. The Romanians next play another pair of Russians - Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva. All four quarterfinals are on Tuesday's schedule.

In mixed doubles, Raymond and Rohan Bopanna, Hlavackova and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi and Huber and Colin Fleming advanced to the quarters. "Always a good day when you can get a win out on Rod Laver Arena," Raymond tweeted. "Thanks Rohan for some fun mixed doubles."
