Erakovic & Dulko Latest Seeds To Fall In Bogotá
Edina Gallovits-Hall

BOGOTÁ, Colombia - Top-seeded Marina Erakovic and fifth-seeded Gisela Dulko, the last two seeds remaining at the XX Copa BBVA Colsanitas before play began on Thursday, both joined the parade of upset victims.

Edina Gallovits-Hall, who came into this event having lost 10 of her last 12 main draw matches, was a 64 64 winner over Erakovic. It was Gallovits-Hall's first victory in seven career matches against No.1 seeds. Next up for the Romanian is Bogotá resident Mariana Duque-Mariño.

Dulko was upended, 75 62, by Alexandra Panova. "I didn't play one of my best matches in the altitude today. I couldn't find my rhythm," Dulko said. "But I think she played a great match. I give credit to her, she really deserved it."

"It's very difficult to play here for everyone. It's about handling the nerves and the conditions," Panova said. "The one who finds a way to put the ball over the net and into the court at the end of the day wins."

In Friday's quarterfinals, Panova will play Karin Knapp, whom she just defeated last week at an ITF Women's Circuit event in Cali. Knapp was a 63 26 62 victor over Catalina Castaño.

In the tightest contest on the day, 19-year-old qualifier Paula Ormaechea outlasted Petra Rampre, 64 36 76(4). Rampre served for the match at 5-4 in the third but Ormaechea rallied en route to the triumph that put her into her first career quarterfinal.

This is the first WTA event since Hobart in 2009 in which no seeded players reached the quarters.
