Indian Wells Day 4 Preview
Caroline Wozniacki
INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - Three former BNP Paribas Open champions, each of whom are also former World No.1s, will take the court on Saturday, when those on the bottom half of the draw play their second round matches. Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic are looking to continue their past success and get their 2012 Indian Wells campaigns off to strong starts.

Saturday, Second Round

Stadium 1
[4] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #4) vs. Ekaterina Makarova (RUS #42)
Head-to-head:
Wozniacki leads 2-0
The last time she took the court here, Caroline Wozniacki was on top of the world, having just won her second title of a season that would see her win six and finish atop the rankings. She has since slipped to No.4 but should not be overlooked at this event, where she not only captured the 2011 title but was runner-up in 2010. However, her opener against Ekaterina Makarova is a dangerous one. Makarova had her best career Grand Slam result at January's Australian Open, upsetting Vera Zvonareva and Serena Williams en route to the quarterfinals. After that, a left wrist injury kept her out of action until her routine first round defeat of Bethanie Mattek-Sands here on Thursday.

[2] Maria Sharapova (RUS #2) vs. Gisela Dulko (ARG #126)
Head-to-head:
Sharapova leads 3-1
Maria Sharapova has lost four games combined in her three victories against Gisela Dulko, including most recently just one in the first round of the Australian Open. However, she certainly knows not to overlook the former doubles World No.1 in light of her upset loss to the Argentine in the second round of Wimbledon in 2009. Sharapova took the Indian Wells title in 2006 and also has two semifinal showings. Dulko is no stranger to success here either, having been a quarterfinalist in 2004 and 2006. Sharapova's 2012 has been highlighted by a run to the final at the Australian Open.

[15] Ana Ivanovic (SRB #16) vs. Johanna Larsson (SWE #67)
Head-to-head:
tied 1-1
Ana Ivanovic certainly enjoys playing Indian Wells, as she was victorious here in 2008 and was runner-up in 2009. After finishing 2011 with her 12th career title in Bali, she has had an up-and-down 2012 season so far as she continues a push to return to the Top 10. She has split her two meetings with Johanna Larsson, including a bizarre encounter in the first round of the French Open last year when she bageled the Swede in the second set but ended up losing the match.

Also on court… Sixth-seeded Australian Samantha Stosur takes on American wildcard Irina Falconi and 10th-seeded Francesca Schiavone plays qualifier Lesia Tsurenko, who dropped just three games against the Italian in their only previous meeting in Fed Cup play last month.
