MIAMI, FL, USA - Day 2 at Indian Wells will see a number of familiar names make a welcome return to the court, including Venus Williams, who takes on Kimiko Date-Krumm in her first WTA match since last year's US Open.

On Wednesday, Kim Clijsters takes on Jarmila Gajdosova in what is her first match since a tough semifinal defeat to Victoria Azarenka at the Australian Open in January. Despite this lack of time on court, Clijsters is more than capable of going all the way in Miami. However, before the Belgian can start thinking of adding a third title to her triumphs in 2010 and 2005, she must first see off Jarmila Gajdosova. After a slow start to the season, there were encouraging signs for Gajdosova in Indian Wells, including a win over Yanina Wickmayer, and if she is firing on all cylinders she has the power to trouble a rusty Clijsters.

Three-time Miami champion Venus Williams will make her long-awaited return to singles action this week after being sidelined for more than half a year through illness. Since last year's US Open, when she revealed she was suffering from Sjogren's Syndrome, Williams has played just one Fed Cup doubles match and her first singles assignment sees her take on the evergreen Kimiko Date-Krumm, who was runner-up at Crandon Park back in 1995. Although the pair have played a combined total of 1,280 matches in their careers, they have met just once, with Williams triumphing 67(6) 63 86 in a second round epic at last year's Wimbledon.

Galina Voskoboeva (KAZ #51) vs. Christina McHale (USA #32)
Head-to-head: McHale leads 2-0
If anyone was in any doubt over Christina McHale's potential to become America's next tennis star, then her victory over Petra Kvitova in Indian Wells will surely have disabused them. Against Kvitova, the American teenager displayed all the technical and mental traits required to live with the world's best and will look to build on this performance on her Miami debut. First up for McHale is Galina Voskoboeva, a player she has defeated in straight sets in their two career meetings. However, on her day Voskoboeva is a match for most and is more than capable of upsetting the form book, as she proved in Toronto last year where she scored Top 10 wins over both Maria Sharapova and Marion Bartoli.

Former semifinalist Shahar Peer faces Alizé Cornet, recent Memphis winner Sofia Arvidsson takes on Gisela Dulko, while the American quartet of Vania King, Jamie Hampton, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys are also looking to make it through to the second round.
