Miami Day 5 Preview
Maria Sharapova
MIAMI, FL, USA - Those on the bottom half of the draw will play their third round matches at the Sony Ericsson Open on Saturday, including former World No.1s Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters and Caroline Wozniacki.

Saturday, Third Round

Stadium
[2] Maria Sharapova (RUS #2) vs. [Q] Sloane Stephens (USA #90)
Head-to-head:
first meeting
Three-time Miami runner-up Maria Sharapova was pushed in her opener against Shahar Peer but advanced in three sets for her 20th career victory at this event. The only time Sharapova failed to advance to the fourth round here was in her initial outing in 2003. Standing in her way is a player who is creating a reputation for dramatic victories. In her first round match in Indian Wells two weeks ago, Sloane Stephens saved a match point in a three set triumph over Aleksandra Wozniak. In both her first and second rounds wins here, she was two games from defeat. Stephens fell to Caroline Wozniacki at Indian Wells last year in her only previous match against a Top 5 player.

[10] Serena Williams (USA #11) vs. [21] Roberta Vinci (ITA #20)
Head-to-head:
Williams leads 1-0
Playing her first match in over six weeks and her first match in Miami since 2009, Serena Williams made short work of Zhang Shuai in her opener here on Thursday. Williams is tied with Steffi Graf for the most career Miami titles with five. She takes a 53-6 record at this event into her encounter with Roberta Vinci, the first match up on Stadium Court. Following a 2011 season in which she won three of her six career titles, Vinci's best result so far this year is a semifinal showing in Acapulco.

Also on court...
Two-time Miami champion Kim Clijsters takes on No.23 seed Yanina Wickmayer. No.4 seed Caroline Wozniacki plays No.29 seed Petra Cetkovska. Finally, No.6 seed Samantha Stosur squares off with Chanelle Scheepers, with whom she has split their four career meetings.
