MIAMI, FL, USA - Gisela Dulko and Paola Suárez endured a battle Monday in becoming the first duo to earn a semifinal berth at the Sony Ericsson Open.

Down 4-1 in a seesaw first set to Vera Dushevina and Shahar Peer, Dulko and Suárez reeled of four straight games, lost two straight and eventually took the set in a tie-break. However, Dushevina and Peer would win the second in a tie-break. Then at 5-5 in the match tie-break, the Argentines won three straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Their 76(2) 67(3) 10-6 triumph gave Dulko and Suárez a 3-0 record in match tie-breaks since they joined forces when Suárez returned to the WTA in February after almost five years away. They are looking to make their first final, having lost the other two times they made the semis - in Monterrey and Acapulco.

Three other duos reached the quarters on Monday - Vania King and Monica Niculescu, Anabel Medina Garrigues and Flavia Pennetta and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Lucie Safarova. King and Niculescu were 75 62 winners over King's usual partner, Yaroslava Shvedova, who is playing with fellow Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva in preparation for this summer's London Olympics. Medina Garrigues and Pennetta got past Julia Goerges and Samantha Stosur, 67(4) 62 119. Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova beat Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja, 61 76(2).

The only two seeded teams left in the draw take the court on Tuesday, with No.5 seeds Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova playing their second round match against fellow Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva and No.6 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci playing their quarterfinal against Ekaterina Makarova and Zheng Jie.
