MADRID, Spain - Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci advanced to the Mutua Madrid Open doubles final on Friday with a thrilling match tie-break victory over Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova.

In what was a repeat of last month's Miami final, Errani and Vinci gained revenge for their defeat on that occasion with a nerveless display in the deciding tie-break.

After taking a close opening set, the Italians had opportunities to close the match out in two - they led 5-3 and held a match point one game later - but despite a gutsy fightback from Kirilenko and Petrova they eventually prevailed, 75 67(4) 105.

The win takes No.5 seeds Errani and Vinci into their sixth final of a memorable season. Here they will meet another Russian pairing in the form of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who ended the hopes of home favorites Nuria Llagostera Vives and María José Martínez Sánchez.

Like the other semifinal, this was a tight affair. Both sets could have gone either way, but ultimately it was Llagostera Vives and Martínez Sánchez's inability to capitalize on their break point opportunities - they converted just two of eight - that made the difference, as Makarova and Vesnina squeaked through, 64 76(4).
