ROME, Italy - It was a different day, a different city, even a different color of clay, but the result was the same.

For the second week in succession, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci met Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova at the business end of one of the WTA's showpiece clay court tournaments. And once again it was the Italians who came out on top.

However, while last week's meeting in Madrid went right down to the wire, Friday's semifinal at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia was a more one-sided affair; Errani and Vinci edging a break-littered first set before racing through the second, much to the delight of the partisan Roman crowd.

The 75 62 triumph takes Errani and Vinci through to their seventh semifinal in the last eight tournaments. Here they will meet 2012's other outstanding doubles team, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, who booked their place in the last four without even stepping on court after Janette Husarova failed to recover from a lower back strain suffered in the previous round.

Huber and Raymond were not the only beneficiaries of a walkover, though. On the other side of the draw, a wrist injury suffered by Flavia Pennetta during singles forced her and partner Francesca Schiavone to pull out of their quarterfinal with Jamie Hampton and Anna Tatishvili.

Meeting Hampton and Tatishvili for a place in the final will be Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who put on a clay court masterclass to thrash Chuang Chia-Jung and Vera Dushevina, 62 62.
