Roland Garros Day 9 Preview
Maria Sharapova

PARIS, France - The second Monday of Roland Garros will see the quarterfinal line-up finalized, with Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Petra Kvitova all in action.

Monday, Fourth Round

Court Philippe Chatrier
Klara Zakopalova (CZE #44) vs. [2] Maria Sharapova (RUS #2)
Head-to-head:
Sharapova leads 2-1
With Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams both falling in the first week, two of the more sizeable obstacles between Maria Sharapova and her first French Open title have been removed. However, if her title rivals' defeats taught her anything, it is not to underestimate anyone.

Despite dropping a meager five games en route to the fourth round, Sharapova will be taking Klara Zakopalova very seriously. Zakopalova has already accounted for two seeded Russians in Paris - Maria Kirilenko and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova - and her solid baseline game posed Sharapova a few problems during a tight two set defeat in Madrid a few weeks ago.

Varvara Lepchenko (USA #63) vs. [4] Petra Kvitova (CZE #4)
Head-to-head:
Kvitova leads 1-0
After watching Petra Kvitova struggle with hard-hitting outsider Nina Bratchikova in the last round, Varvara Lepchenko will fancy her chances on Monday. The ever-improving American has been on a roll in 2012, and if she replicates the mixture of power and poise that helped see off Jelena Jankovic and Francesca Schiavone then she has a real chance of shocking the No.4 seed.

However, as much as Lepchenko has impressed in the first week, the outcome of this match is likely to depend on which Kvitova turns up. When on song, the Czech's devastating groundstrokes make her near-unplayable on any surface, and if she can build on the form she showed in the latter stages against Bratchikova then she will be extremely difficult to beat.

Court Suzanne Lenglen
[7] Li Na (CHN #7) vs. [Q] Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ #142)
Head-to-head:
Li leads 1-0
Eight days into the French Open and Yaroslava Shvedova is the only qualifier left standing. She is also just one of four players yet to drop a set. Both of these statistics are in serious danger on Monday, though, as the Kazakh takes on defending champion Li Na.

Yet while Shvedova may be the underdog, she can certainly not be discounted. Her attacking, all-court game could pose problems for Li - who can struggle when starved of rhythm - and with two Top 10 wins and a French Open quarterfinal appearance to her name she is also unlikely to be daunted by the occasion.

Around the grounds…
The final match on Suzanne Lenglen sees big-hitting Kaia Kanepi take on Arantxa Rus for the last quarterfinal berth, while over in the doubles competition, 2012's form team, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, look to book a spot in the semifinals when they take on Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
