Inaugural Olympic Mixed Event Set To Start
Lisa Raymond, Mike Bryan

LONDON, England - The first-ever Olympic mixed doubles competition will get underway Wednesday, and the Top 3 seeds are likely contenders for medals considering they are the only duos in the 16-team draw with majors together.

Here is a breakdown of the mixed doubles credentials of top-seeded Belarusians Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi, second-seeded Americans Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan and third-seeded Americans Lisa Raymond and Mike Bryan.

Team Mixed Majors As Duo Total Mixed Majors
Azarenka/Mirnyi 1 ('07 US Open) 4 (Azarenka: 1, Mirnyi: 3)
Huber/B.Bryan 2 ('09 French Open, '10 US Open) 9 (Huber: 2, Bryan: 7)
Raymond/M.Bryan 3 ('02 US Open, '03 French Open, '12 Wimbledon) 8 (Raymond 5, Bryan: 3)

Other dangerous duos include Indians Sania Mirza and Leander Paes, Australians Samantha Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt and Serbs Ana Ivanovic and Nenad Zimonjic. From those combos, those with mixed titles to their credit are Mirza with two, Paes with six, Stosur with two and Zimonjic with four.

The tournament did miss out on the potential star-studded team of Czechs Petra Kvitova and Radek Stepanek.

"I'm very disappointed not to be able to play mixed with Radek because I had been really looking forward to playing doubles for my country," Kvitova said. "Unfortunately, I have a stomach injury, so have decided to put my health first and do everything I can to be ready for my singles against Flavia tomorrow."
