Quotable Quotes: The Champion On CNN
Serena Williams

LONDON, England - She had won all four Grand Slams and reached No.1 in both singles and doubles, as well as Olympic gold in doubles - and this past week she added the only missing piece: Olympic gold in singles. It was an historic week for Serena Williams, and after all the dust settled, she took some time out to speak with Piers Morgan on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight...

On the gold medal match against Sharapova...
"Piers, I really wanted to win the gold medal more than anything. When I walked out there I just thought about how gold is my favorite color - I didn't want silver, I wanted gold. I just thought to myself, 'I'm not going to have a better opportunity than this. It's on grass. This surface was made for me. Let's do it.'

"I haven't seen the match yet, I haven't had a chance to see anything. It's been so much. Obviously I'm going to watch it and try to learn from it."

On the post-gold medal dance...
"I love to dance. I was so happy. I didn't know what to do - there was no trophy so I couldn't hold it and jump - so I just danced. It was fun. It felt so good to win that gold medal, to have that moment, to know I'm contributing to gold medals for the United States. We came over here as a team - it felt great."

On coming back to the top from injury and illness...
"There were times I didn't know if I would even play tennis again. It wasn't looking so good. But one day I woke up and thought, 'I can practice today.' I started with baby steps, then bigger steps, then bigger steps. What helped me was I stayed really positive - that's what it was all about for me."

On all the other Olympians...
"I'm really good friends with Ryan Lochte - I'm always texting him. And I was amazed with Usain Bolt - I loved watching him run, he just took off. I loved watching Gabby Douglas in gymnastics doing her thing. But my favorite was the South African athlete, Oscar Pistorius - I had chill bumps all over. I was so inspired. We all have little aches and pains, but someone like him making no excuses - what an honor to be at the same Olympics as this guy. To be a part of those moments makes my Olympics completely memorable."
