Breakthroughs, ranking movers and much more - every week wtatennis.com will be serving up a summary of stats in WTA Odds N' Ends...

Kvitova Cools Off Field In Canada
Petra Kvitova finally got back in the winner's circle at the Rogers Cup after having previously not gone beyond a final four all year. En route to her eighth victory in 10 career finals, Kvitova netted her first two Top 10 wins of 2012:
- Sydney SF vs. No.5 Li Na: L
- Australian Open SF vs. No.4 Maria Sharapova: L
- Stuttgart SF vs. No.2 Maria Sharapova: L
- French Open SF vs. No.2 Maria Sharapova: L
- Wimbledon QF vs. No.6 Serena Williams: L
- Montréal 3r vs. No.10 Marion Bartoli: W
- Montréal SF vs. No.8 Caroline Wozniacki: W

Kvitova's road to the title was far from easy, though, as she was extended to three sets in her second round, semifinal and final. Only six other titlists in 2012 have lost as many sets:
Zheng Jie: lost three sets in five matches at Auckland
Angelique Kerber: lost three sets in five matches at Paris [Indoors]
Angelique Kerber: lost three sets in five matches at Copenhagen
Melanie Oudin: lost three sets in six matches at Birmingham
Tamira Paszek: lost three sets in five matches at Eastbourne
Serena Williams: lost three sets in seven matches at Wimbledon

Doubles Surprise
Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Kristina Mladenovic paired up for just the third time in Montréal, which had a field containing the likes of doubles superstars Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci and Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta, among others.

Nevertheless, Jans-Ignacik and Mladenovic survived three match tie-breaks in capturing their first title as a duo, which was Jans-Ignacik's third WTA doubles title and Mladenovic's first WTA title of any kind. Here are a few of the trouble spots they withstood:
1r vs. Llagostera Vives & Martínez Sánchez: Had set point against them in first set tie-break of 76(8) 63 win
2r vs. Pavlyuchenkova & Safarova: Were three points from losing up 9-8 in match tie-break of 75 67(8) 108 win
QF vs. Makarova & Savchuk: Extended to match tie-break in 63 67(3) 106 win
SF vs. Rodionova & Voskoboeva: Had two set points against them at 6-5 in second set of 63 76(5) win
F vs. Petrova & Srebotnik: Extended to match tie-break in 75 26 107 win

Ranking Movers
Montréal semifinalist Lucie Safarova made her Top 20 debut in going from No.23 to No.19. With Petra Kvitova at No.5, this is the first time two Czechs have resided in the Top 20 since the week of October 16, 1995, when Jana Novotna was No.7 and Helena Sukova was No.20.

- Sesil Karatantcheva jumped from No.105 to No.92 - her first venture into the Top 100 since January 2006.
