Quotable Quotes: Some Snippets From Cincy
Serena Williams

CINCINNATI, OH, USA - One of the biggest US Open lead-up tournaments of the summer took place last week in Cincinnati, the Premier-level Western & Southern Open. And the world class action wasn't just reserved for the court - the stars of the WTA had some shining moments in the press room too.

Agnieszka Radwanska on her Wimbledon and Olympic experiences...
"Well for sure the first London was much better for me! The second, not really. But of course carrying the flag for Poland was a really great experience. Losing the match was disappointing, especially when it's first round or second, but I'll try again in four years to get a medal. For now I can just enjoy the experience from my first two Olympics, and I'm hoping the third one will be luckier."

Angelique Kerber, who beat Venus Williams at the Olympics and Serena Williams in Cincinnati, on how the Williams sisters compare...
"I did beat both of them, and it's a great feeling because they're both such great players and won so many Grand Slams, and they're still playing so well. I don't know if they're too different - they both hit very good serves, and if they hit the balls, you have no chance to get them. I think they play very similarly."

Angelique Kerber on her first trip to the US Open...
"It was a long time ago. I remember I was with my coach who I'm with now. I was 16 or 17 and my ranking was like 200-something. I was one out of the qualies and nobody withdrew, so I didn't get into the qualies. I had like three days in New York then went back to Germany. It wasn't so nice."

Li Na on coach Carlos Rodriguez's former protégé, Justine Henin...
"I would watch Justine and I always felt she was such a cool player. She never showed anger or anything to her opponents. Carlos has been telling me the same. Of course I'm much different than her. Right now I'm trying to stand up again, because at the start of this year so many people were asking me, 'When will you retire?' I want to challenge myself again and see how far I can get."

Serena Williams, who has been practicing at Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Paris, when told ATP player Jeremy Chardy, who also trains there, said she tried to return his serve with "mild success"...
"I returned all of Jeremy's serves. I don't know what he's talking about. He needs to come in here and be honest. I was hitting winners on him!

"Yeah, he was serving next to me and hitting it so hard, so I was like, 'Can I just try to return your serve?' But I told him not to serve into my body. I was afraid he would hit me. I said, 'If you hit me I'm going to start crying.' He's a great guy."

Venus Williams on Varvara Lepchenko and her clothing line EleVen...
"We were team members at the Olympics, and she expressed some interest to wear EleVen. This was her first tournament in it and I think she looks amazing. Pink is a great color for her. I like to think that these clothes make you feel good because you feel like you look great. That's what EleVen is all about."

Venus Williams on her favorite thing to do in New York every year...
"It used to be Barney's, but now I would say private room karaoke. My favorite song right now, strangely enough, is White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. It's actually really hard to sing, but I only sing it after I've warmed up a little bit and my voice is all nice, after some tea. But more than anything I just try a lot of new songs. I'm not a professional singer, but it lifts your spirits anyway."
