Every week there's a lot happening on the WTA - on the court, off the court, by the numbers, even a few tweets... catch up on it all in this week's WTA Diary.
Fifteen years after bursting onto the scene as a precocious teenager, it was fitting that Kim Clijsters' final singles match should come against one of the WTA's next generation of stars, Laura Robson.
In a match not lacking for quality or drama, Clijsters was edged out in two tie-breaks before bidding an emotional farewell to a crowd that had witnessed so many of her greatest moments.
"One of my biggest dreams came true in 2005 by winning here and every time I came back I was always inspired by the energy and played some of my best matches here," Clijsters told Pam Shriver after the match. "I feel like it was a perfect place to retire and I just wish it wasn't today.
"Since I came back it's been a great adventure for me, my team and my family, and it has all been worth it, but I'm excited for the next part of my life."
For The Record
Kim may have departed Flushing Meadows a little earlier than she would have hoped, but her final record in the Big Apple still stands at a staggeringly good, played 44, won 38, lost 6. And the 22 matches she won in succession (during her title runs in 2005, 2009 and 2010) gives her the second longest win streak in the tournament's history behind a certain Chris Evert.
Thanks For the Memories
No sooner had Kim's backhand return sailed long on match point than the Twittersphere was awash with messages from friends, fans and players.
