Azarenka & Williams: Stats For The Final
Serena Williams

NEW YORK, NY, USA - It's down to two at the US Open: Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams. Here are some stats to accompany the final...

~ Azarenka is playing her second Grand Slam final (1-0 record).

~ Azarenka has two US Open titles to her name - the junior title in 2005 (beating Glatch in the final) and the mixed doubles title in 2007 (with Mirnyi).

~ Azarenka's two junior Grand Slam titles came at the Australian Open and US Open in 2005 - could she mirror that in the seniors seven years later?

~ Azarenka has the second-most match wins on the WTA this season with 54 but cannot catch the leader here (Kerber has the most with 56).

~ Azarenka clinched the post-US Open No.1 ranking by winning her quarterfinal match against Stosur (this coming week will be her 29th week at the top spot).

~ No woman has won the Australian Open and US Open in the same season since 1997 (Hingis won those two plus Wimbledon that year).

~ Williams is playing her 19th Grand Slam final (14-4 record).

~ Williams is in fourth place in the Open Era for Grand Slam titles with 14 (Graf leads with 22 and Navratilova and Evert are tied for second with 18 each).

~ Williams is in fourth place in the Open Era for Grand Slam match wins with 224 (Navratilova leads with 306, Evert has 299 and Graf has 278).

~ The last two times a player won a Grand Slam title without losing a set were both Williams (who did it at the 2008 US Open and 2010 Wimbledon).

~ Williams has won 42 of her last 44 matches (her only losses since the start of April came to Razzano at the French Open and to Kerber in Cincinnati).

~ The last time a 30-something won the US Open was 1987 (Navratilova did it that year, and Williams was just five years old at the time).

~ No woman has won Wimbledon and the US Open in the same season since 2002 (Williams won those two plus the French Open that year).

~ In 2012, Azarenka is 48-0 when winning the first set, while Williams is 48-1 (the only loss coming against Razzano at the French Open, 46 76(5) 63).

~ Williams leads Azarenka in their head-to-head series, 9-1.
