ISTANBUL, Turkey - Some have been, some have conquered, some haven't done either yet - what we do know is all eight players who made the cut for the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul 2012 will play their hearts out in beautiful Istanbul in a few weeks, with season-ending glory on the line.

Here's how the elite eight breaks down, history-wise...

Qualifier No.1: Victoria Azarenka
~ Fourth appearance at WTA Championships (5-6 career record)
- 2009: fell in RR stage (1-2 record)
- 2010: fell in RR stage (1-2 record)
- 2011: runner-up (2-1 in RR, d. Zvonareva in SFs, l. to Kvitova in F)

Qualifier No.2: Maria Sharapova
~ Sixth appearance at WTA Championships (13-7 career record)
- 2004: champion (2-1 in RR, d. Myskina in SFs, d. S.Williams in F)
- 2005: semifinalist (2-1 in RR, l. to Mauresmo in SFs)
- 2006: semifinalist (3-0 in RR, l. to Henin in SFs)
- 2007: runner-up (3-0 in RR, d. Chakvetadze in SFs, l. to Henin in F)
- 2011: fell in RR stage (0-2 record then withdrew w/left ankle injury)

Qualifier No.3: Serena Williams
~ Seventh appearance at WTA Championships (15-5 career record)
- 1999: withdrew w/back injury
- 2000: withdrew w/left foot injury
- 2001: champion (elimination format - got w/o from Davenport in final)
- 2002: runner-up (elimination format - l. to Clijsters in F)
- 2003: withdrew w/left knee injury
- 2004: runner-up (2-1 in RR, d. Mauresmo in SFs, l. to Sharapova in F)
- 2007: fell in RR stage (0-1 record then withdrew w/left knee injury)
- 2008: fell in RR stage (1-1 record then withdrew w/abdominal injury)
- 2009: champion (3-0 in RR, d. Wozniacki in SFs, d. V.Williams in F)
- 2010: withdrew w/right foot injury
