TAIPEI, Chinese Taipei - The 2012 season may be drawing to a close, but there is still plenty to play for before the tennis world goes into hibernation until January.

This week sees several of the WTA's leading names in action in the Qatar Airways Tournament Of Champions Sofia, Fed Cup final and the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open.

Among them is China's Peng Shuai, who heads the draw at the WTA $125 in Taipei hoping to end a frustrating campaign on a high.

Peng ended last year ranked at No.17 in the world but in 2012 a succession of injury problems have seen her register just 25 wins and come close to slipping out of the Top 50. But a string of encouraging results during the Asian swing now sees her head into the final tournament of the year full of confidence.

In the first round Peng faces World No.351 Zarina Diyas, with Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and No.8 seed Greta Arn potential foes in the second round and quarterfinals.

Leading the way on the other side of the draw is No.2 seed Olga Govortsova, who gets her challenge underway against Zheng Saisai. The other seeds are Ayumi Morita, Kristina Mladenovic, Chang Kai-Chen, Kimiko Date-Krumm and Misaki Doi.

The tournament is the first of the WTA $125s. With a total prize fund of $125,000 and 160 points on offer, they sit between the WTA's International Series and ITF Women's Circuit events.
