Heather Watson: One Spotlight To Another
Heather Watson

LIVERPOOL, England - A few weeks ago the international spotlight shone down on her after she became the first Brit to win a WTA title in 24 years, and on Saturday there was a different kind of spotlight shining on her - Heather Watson stepped out on the red carpet at the MOBO Awards in Liverpool.

The MOBOs are an annual music awards ceremony in the UK and this year Watson - whose WTA title in Osaka was the first by a Brit since 1988 - was there, presenting the Newcomer Of The Year award to Rita Ora and meeting and taking pictures with the likes of musical artists Emeli Sandé, Misha B and Conor Maynard, and British boxer and Olympic gold medalist Nicola Adams.

Watson looked stunning at the awards, wearing a dress from a small boutique in Guernsey, where she lives, while her shoes were from French Connection.

"It was amazing to be around so many talented people," Watson said the day after the awards. "The whole night from start to finish, and even the rehearsal, were so fun. But I'd have to say my highlight was actually giving the award. I've never done anything like that before - it was a new experience for me. I was a bit nervous and my legs were shaking a little bit, but it was a lot of fun.

"I was actually allowed to sneak a peek to see who won the award before they announced it, and I was so glad Rita Ora won it because I like her music and I think she's great. It was nice to meet her, and I got a cheeky little pic too."

Her favorite performance of the night? "My favorite performance was probably Earthquake by Labrinth," she said. "I listen to that one a lot before I go on."
