Quotable Quotes... Pennetta On Dulko
Flavia Pennetta, Gisela Dulko

VERBIER, Switzerland - For years they were inseparable on the WTA, both on and off the court, so what happens when one of them retires? Flavia Pennetta shares her thoughts on Gisela Dulko retiring from professional tennis...

On last week's news of Dulko's retirement...
"She's my best friend and we talked about it a long time before she announced it publicly. I'm happy because Gisela took this decision very seriously. After a great career, she wants to focus her energy on building a family. So this is a new project for her in life, even though tennis will always be in her heart."

On her best on-court moments with Dulko...
"Gisela dedicated a special thank you to me in her announcement, which moved me, because nobody will ever forget the beautiful victories we had together: the Doha Masters in 2010, the Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2011, and when we got to the top of the rankings the same year, too. But above all, we will never forget our friendship, as Gisela said in the announcement!"

On her best off-court moments with Dulko...
"My best off-court memories are all those times we had fun together, when we laughed and rejoiced together for things that happened in our lives. But moreover, my best off-court memories with Gisela are the ones where one of us needed the other's support - we have never neglected our friendship."

On why they got along so well and played so well together...
"A lot of it comes from the fact that we know each other so well personally, in our private lives. We have the same energy and the same character, and we react the same way to things, so we always knew how to motivate each other. Our beautiful friendship had a great influence on our wonderful results."

On whether they will still see each other now that Dulko isn't travelling...
"We are best friends, and even though we will only be seeing each other off the court now, it will be beautiful anyway."

Dulko and Pennetta won 11 WTA doubles titles together, one in 2006 (Bogotá), two in 2009 (Hobart and Bastad), seven in 2010 (Miami, Stuttgart, Rome, Bastad, Montréal, Moscow and the WTA Championships) and one in 2011 (the Australian Open). They reached another six WTA doubles finals together.
