Quotable Quotes: Pironkova On Sofia & More
Tsvetana Pironkova

PLOVDIV, Bulgaria - It was another successful year for Bulgaria's shining star, Tsvetana Pironkova, making three quarterfinals in the regular season and dusting off another Top 50 season with a semifinal finish at her home event in Sofia. How does she feel about it all? Here are her thoughts...

On finishing in the Top 50 for the fourth time in the last five years...
"It has been a very dramatic year for me. Overall I'm happy with my results. I had more consistent results this year compared to the previous years, which was one of my goals, and the highlight for me was reaching the fourth round at the US Open and the semis of Hopman Cup with Grigor Dimitrov - that was a very thrilling experience. But of course I realize there are still many things I need to work on!"

On having a WTA tournament in Bulgaria now...
"Wow, it was an amazing experience for me. Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time at such a high level was incredibly inspiring and tough at the same time - and the crowd wasn't just excited for my matches, they were excited for all the players! It felt great to have a home event. It was new for me.

"And Sofia was a good host, too - the organization of the tournament was perfect, and I'd like to thank the Bulgarian Tennis Federation for giving me the opportunity to participate at the event. And also to Qatar Airways and all of the sponsors for making it all happen. We also had the full support of the Bulgarian government and Prime Minister, which was a key to the tournament's success."

On whether she has had any downtime since the 2012 season finished...
"Oh yes! I had two weeks off. I didn't go anywhere special, I just wanted to be home, eat at home, sleep at home, go out with friends and overall just do the things I normally don't get the chance to do!"

On her training for the 2013 season...
"I am training really hard at the moment! I'm at home in Plovdiv, where I normally train. I'm working on improving everything, especially fitness, so that my body is ready for the next season."

On her goals for 2013...
"Winning a WTA tournament would be a nice start!"
