Quotable Quotes: Generations, Draws & More
Li Na

MELBOURNE, Australia - The stars of the WTA didn't just light the courts up at Melbourne Park, they also lit the press room up - this week on wtatennis.com we'll have a look back at some of the more memorable quotes from the biggest stars of women's tennis, starting today with some Top 5 stars...

Maria Sharapova
On whether she relates to the younger or older generation of players...
"I feel like I'm somewhere in the middle. I've seen an older generation when I was quite young and just getting on the tour. They were at the peak of their careers and competing really well, and I learned so much from that. Now I find myself in a moment where you see so many youngsters - well not young, but 17, 18, 19, 20 years old - who are doing really well. And I guess that's the newer generation. Sometimes you think it's quite crazy because it seems like last minute you were there, you were one of them."

Serena Williams
On her longevity being compared to Agassi's longevity...
"I love Andre. He's a great guy. I think our careers have some similarities, maybe just a little bit. I was playing fabulous a decade ago, as well as he was in his career. It's not a bad person to be compared to. He's someone who is definitely historic and a great American tennis player."

On the racquet smash in her quarterfinal match with Stephens...
"Did you see it? I even had a wry smile on my lips after that. It made me happy, unfortunately."

Victoria Azarenka
On seeing photos of herself in the hallways of Melbourne Park...
"Yeah, I mean, those pictures are going to be there for a while. That's a great feeling to have. Actually, the other day I was walking, and the security guy was like, 'You got your pass?' And there was my picture. I said, 'There is my pass - there it is!" It was funny. But I love the security here. They are so strict. They are really making sure nobody gets in, it's incredible."

On not looking at the draw...
"Obviously at a Grand Slam, whoever plays the same day as me is in my half. That's common sense. But I don't look at the draw - I'm not even curious. It has been like this about six or seven years. It's because I used to look all the time and it made me think too much - what's the point?"

Li Na
On whether she ever considered an English name, given her husband took Dennis...
"No. I think my name is so short, I didn't even need an English name."
