BOGOTÁ, Colombia - Second-seeded Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet was tested but advanced to the second round on a light first day of main draw action at the Copa Claro Colsanitas.

Cornet had a comeback year in 2012, securing her first title in almost four years at Bad Gastein and also reaching the final at Strasbourg. She came into this week ranked No.36 after an up-and-down start to 2013. Against Elina Svitolina on Monday, she fought off five set points in the second set - including three at 6-3 in the tie-break - en route to a 62 76(6) triumph.

Fellow Frenchwoman Mathilde Johansson also moved on, winning four straight games down 3-2 in the third set of her 64 26 63 defeat of Stéphanie Dubois. One of the two WTA finals Johansson has reached occurred here in 2011.

Other winners were Mandy Minella, 64 63, over Tatjana Malek, and Paula Ormaechea, 75 62, over Nina Bratchikova. Ormaechea had her best WTA result to date in getting to the quarterfinals here last year. And though she was a semifinalist at the WTA 125K Series event last week in Cali, her opener here was her first WTA main draw match win since Charleston last April.

Securing main draw berths with wins in the final round of qualifying were Sharon Fichman, Teliana Pereira, Tereza Mrdeza and Beatriz García Vidagany.

Among those victorious in the first round of doubles were No.1 seeds and defending champions Eva Birnerova and Alexandra Panova.

One of the featured match-ups on Tuesday's schedule is 2005 Bogotá titlist Flavia Pennetta against last year's runner-up, Alexandra Panova. Also taking the court are defending champ Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino and 2011 winner Lourdes Domínguez Lino.
