INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - One BNP Paribas Open doubles semifinal was set Tuesday, as Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina will face off with Kimiko Date-Krumm and Casey Dellacqua.

Fourth-seeded Makarova and Vesnina were severely tested by Chan Hao-Ching and Janette Husarova, managing a 76(3) 46 107 victory. The Russians won five straight points from 3-2 down in the first set tie-break to go out in front. However, Chan and Husarova then raced out to a 5-1 second set lead that they would not relinquish. Finally, from 7-7 in the match tie-break, Makarova and Vesnina took the final three points.

Makarova and Vesnina are now 8-1 on the year and are 16-1 in their last 17 matches.

Date-Krumm and Dellacqua had an easier time of it against another Russian pair, Vera Dushevina and Alexandra Panova. They jumped out to a 5-0 first set lead and won four straight games down 4-2 in the second for the 62 64 triumph.

Champions in their only previous outing at Pattaya City last month, Date-Krumm and Dellacqua are now 7-0 as a duo.

"So far we've had a 100% strike rate," Dellacqua said. "We won Pattaya and are through to the semis so far here. It's been great and we've played really well. Today probably wasn't our best tennis, but we managed to win in straight sets.

"We just need to stay fresh and keep enjoying ourselves. We play really well together and whoever we play we come up with a plan, and hopefully we're able to execute that plan in the next round."

Dellacqua talked about the differences between the 42-year-old Date-Krumm and her other partner this year, 16-year-old Ashleigh Barty.

"I don't think you could get two players who are more different," Dellacqua said. "Ashleigh hits with shape. Kimiko hits the ball quite flat. Both of them are very good players. I've had the privilege to play with both of them. It's actually been a real honor. That's what I love about the game of tennis. It's such a game for old and young. It doesn't even matter what level. Everyone can play."
