MIAMI, FL, USA - Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik remained on course to reach their fourth consecutive WTA final on Wednesday with a straight set victory over Julia Goerges and Yaroslava Shvedova at the Sony Open Tennis.

Since joining forces at the start of the year, Petrova and Srebotnik have rapidly established themselves as one of the most consistent teams on tour, winning the title in Sydney and finishing runners-up three times on the trot, in Doha, Dubai and Indian Wells.

Victory in Sydney took the pair's combined trophy haul to 53, and Petrova believes these past successes have helped their partnerships to blossom so quickly.

"She has so much experience and so much success in the past in doubles, and when we step out on the court together we really feel very confident," Petrova said. "We're powerful from the baseline, very aggressive and have good net games. We also have strong characters and this makes our team even harder to beat."

This character was in evidence against Goerges and Shvedova, as they were forced to come from a break down in each set before eventually closing out a hard-fought 64 76(3) win.

"I am quite happy with the way we played today," Petrova added. "We were playing a good team - they have big returns and they go for big shots.

"We have been playing well in the last few weeks and I think we have a good opportunity to go far in this tournament."

Meeting them in the semifinals will be wildcard pairing Svetlana Kuznetsova and Flavia Pennetta, who claimed their place courtesy of a walkover after a knee injury to María José Martínez Sánchez forced her and partner Liezel Huber to withdraw on Wednesday morning.

"It's a shame that our opponents had to withdraw and we hope María José will recover soon," Kuznetsova said. "We would like to have played as we are playing well, but hopefully it will keep us fresh for the semifinals."

The other semifinal pits the top seeds and last year's runners-up, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, against the tournament's surprise package, Lisa Raymond and Laura Robson.
