The Enquirer has recognized women whose commitment to their communities has improved the lives of people in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky for 45 years.

Bruening's role with what is now known as the Western & Southern Open has ranged from volunteer to secretary to operations leader. She played a critical role in making Cincinnati a WTA stop in 2004 and upgrading it to Premier-level in 2009.

Bruening also has been instrumental in the tournament's philanthropic efforts, which have included collecting more than over $8 million for the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and more than $1 million for the Barrett Cancer Center and Tennis for City Youth.

Now a joint event, the Western & Southern Open is the United States' oldest professional tennis tournament still played in its original city. Its WTA champions include Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Jelena Jankovic, Li Na and Maria Sharapova.
