WTA Odds N' Ends: Serena Rolls In Rome
Serena Williams

Things are looking up for a second Roland Garros title for Serena Williams. Her lone title there came after her first title in Rome in 2002, and she just secured her second Rome title on Sunday. On top of that, she has never been hotter going into the French Open - as she is in the midst of a personal-best 24-match win streak and has a better pre-Roland Garros record than she has ever had.

- Here are Williams' best five records going into the French Open and how she ended up doing there those years:
2002: 23-3 (88.5%), W
2003: 26-2 (92.9%), SF
2008: 23-2 (92.0%), 3r
2012: 27-2 (93.1%), 1r
2013: 36-2 (94.7%), ?

- With her Internazionali BNL d'Italia triumph, Williams moved into sole possession of third place among active players for most WTA clay court titles:
1. Anabel Medina Garrigues: 10
2. Venus Williams: 9
3. Serena Williams: 8
4t. Flavia Pennetta: 7
4t. Maria Sharapova: 7

- Williams surrendered just 14 games all week in Rome, tied for her least games lost en route to a WTA title in her career:
2013 Rome: 14 (5 matches played)
2001 WTA Championships: 14 (3 matches played)
2012 Charleston: 15 (5 matches played)
2013 Brisbane: 17 (4 matches played)
2012 Olympics: 17 (6 matches played)
2003 Paris [Indoors]: 17 (4 matches played)

Hsieh & Peng Victorious In Doubles
Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai knocked off No.4 seeds Liezel Huber and María José Martínez Sánchez, No.2 seeds Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik and No.1 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci en route to their fifth WTA title as a duo and second in Rome - having also won there in 2009. It was Hsieh's 10th WTA doubles title and Peng's eighth.

- With three of her WTA doubles titles having come in Rome, Peng is tied for the most at that event in the Open Era:
Olga Morozova: 3
Martina Navratilova: 3
Peng Shuai: 3
Monica Seles: 3
Virginia Wade: 3

Ranking News
- Rome semifinalist Sara Errani went up one spot to crack the Top 5, making her the second Italian after former World No.4 Francesca Schiavone to achieve that feat.
- The Top 100's biggest climber, Rome semifinalist Simona Halep, jumped 20 spots to No.44.
