STRASBOURG, France - While the parade of upsets continued at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, No.3 seed Alizé Cornet remained the on-paper favorite with a routine second round victory.

Cornet already had pleasant memories of Strasbourg before this week, as she beat three-time champion Anabel Medina Garrigues in the quarterfinals here last year en route to her first WTA final since 2008.

Cornet's 63 64 defeat of Magda Linette on Wednesday set up a quarterfinal showdown with the only other seed remaining, Chanelle Scheepers. The seventh-seeded South African rallied from a 4-1 third set deficit for a 26 63 64 defeat of Shelby Rogers.

Making the quarterfinals for the second straight year was Johanna Larsson, a 63 63 winner over Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano.

"It was a well-played match for me, and I'm very happy about my performance," Larsson said. "I'm just going to try to keep my level up, maybe serve a little bit better. Hopefully I'll keep winning those important points that make the difference."

Larsson commented on the chilly conditions in Strasbourg this year.

"It's really hard when it's so cold to go outside and practice," Larsson said. "You mostly want to stay inside, but it is what it is and it's the same for everyone."

One of the day's upsets saw Misaki Doi beat No.4 seed Hsieh Su-Wei for the first time in five meetings, 64 46 76(3). In her first quarterfinal of 2013, the Japanese will play qualifier Flavia Pennetta, who is into her first quarterfinal in just over a year.

And in another surprise, Anna Tatishvili ran off the last four games of the match to eliminate fifth-seeded Monica Niculescu, 46 63 62. Despite coming into this week on a nine-match WTA losing streak, Tatishvili is now into her first quarterfinal of the season. Awaiting her is Eugenie Bouchard, who has surrendered just nine games through two matches - best of the quarterfinalists.

The four singles quarterfinals and four doubles quarterfinals are all scheduled for Thursday.
