French Open Wednesday: Serena On Court
Serena Williams

PARIS, France - Serena Williams will be the headline act as second round play gets underway at Roland Garros. However, there are also intriguing match-ups involving a couple of other Top 10 players.

Wednesday, Second Round

Court Philippe Chatrier
[1] Serena Williams (USA #1) vs. [WC] Caroline Garcia (FRA #114)
Head-to-head:
first meeting
The last time she faced a Frenchwoman at the French Open, Serena Williams was dealt a shocking defeat at the hands of Virginie Razzano in last year's first round. Therefore, she surely won't overlook French teen Caroline Garcia in this year's second round. Williams showed no signs of first round jitters on Sunday in surrendering just one game to Anna Tatishvili. It was her 40th career French Open win and extended her career-best WTA win streak to 25 matches. She is also on a four-tournament win streak, having been triumphant in Miami, Charleston, Madrid and Rome coming into Roland Garros.

Garcia is looking to win back-to-back WTA main draw matches for the first time in her career. She is 0-2 against Top 10 opponents, having lost to Maria Sharapova twice - including in a three-setter in the second round here in 2011. Garcia did achieve her career-best win in Paris, albeit indoors at the Open GDF SUEZ, earlier this year against then-No.53 Francesca Schiavone in qualifying.

Court 1
[4] Agnieszka Radwanska (POL #4) vs. Mallory Burdette (USA #80)
Head-to-head:
first meeting
Agnieszka Radwanska kicked off 2013 with titles in Auckland and Sydney, but since then has failed to go beyond a semifinal. She has never been past the fourth round here, so could be ripe for an upset. Plus, her title defense at Brussels never got started due to a right shoulder injury. She does have two WTA clay court titles in her career and has collected hardware at Roland Garros before, though that was as junior champion in 2006. Radwanska looked in fine form in a first round rout of Shahar Peer and surely would relish a potential third round clash with sister Urszula.

Fresh off cracking the Top 80, Mallory Burdette is playing just her second Grand Slam main draw - having reached the third round of the 2012 US Open. She was a straight set winner over Donna Vekic in the first round on Sunday, making her one of eight Americans into the second round so far. Though she is 0-3 against Top 10 opponents in her career, Burdette has recorded her first three Top 50 wins this season.

Court 7
[10] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #10) vs. Bojana Jovanovski (SRB #47)
Head-to-head: Wozniacki leads 2-1
Caroline Wozniacki will surely have revenge on her mind when she takes on Bojana Jovanovski. Though their first two meetings were tight, the Dane emerged victorious each time. However, two weeks ago in the first round of Rome, Jovanovski scored her second Top 10 win by surviving Wozniacki in a third set tie-break. She also snapped an eight-match losing streak in the process. Another defeat of Wozniacki would push Jovanovski past the $1 million mark in career prize money.

After her loss to Jovanovski in Rome, Wozniacki lost her fourth straight opener the following week in Brussels, calling into question her likelihood for a deep run at Roland Garros. But she looked the best she has in months in a 63 62 first round win over rising teen star Laura Robson on Monday. Also, she has not lost before the third round here since her debut in 2007.

Around the grounds…
World No.3 Victoria Azarenka and Elena Vesnina look to finally play their rain delayed first round match, as do 2012 French Open semifinalist Petra Kvitova and Aravane Rezai.
