French Open Saturday: Cornet Eyes Upset
Alize Cornet

PARIS, France - After the rain delays earlier in the week, the French Open is finally back on schedule and Saturday will see the remaining third round matches completed.

Saturday, Third Round

Court Philippe Chatrier
[3] Victoria Azarenka (BLR #3) vs. [31] Alizé Cornet (FRA #27)
Head-to-head:
Azarenka leads 1-0
All the evidence ahead of Victoria Azarenka's third round meeting with Alizé Cornet points in only one direction. However, in Paris, sometimes logic does not count for a great deal, and Azarenka needs only to cast her mind back 12 months to Virginie Razzano's stunning upset of Serena Williams for a reminder of the dangers posed to a seed by an inspired Frenchwoman and a partisan crowd.

Judging by her last encounter with Azarenka - in which she picked up just one game - Cornet, bidding to reach the last 16 for the first time, will need the full weight of her compatriots' support in order to pull off the upset on Chatrier. However, if she can maintain the recent rich vein of form that took her to the title in Strasbourg and over the first few hurdles in Paris, the World No.3 will not have things all her own way.

Court Suzanne Lenglen
[9] Samantha Stosur (AUS #9) vs. [18] Jelena Jankovic (SRB #18)
Head-to-head:
Jankovic leads 6-2
Samantha Stosur has managed to fly under the radar somewhat during the first week in Paris, which is all the more surprising given the fact she has reached the semifinals or better on three of her last four visits. Her topspin loaded groundstrokes and serve looked particularly menacing last time out, defeating home favorite Kristina Mladenovic in a high-quality affair.

She will have her hands full again against Jankovic, who has approached this year's clay court season with a renewed sense of vigor. The former No.1 has won 16 of her last 20 matches on the dirt, and looked particularly impressive in reeling off 12 straight games to defuse the dangerous Garbiñe Muguruza in the last round. The pair have met on eight occasions, with Jankovic winning the last three, including earlier this spring in Stuttgart.

Court 7
[7] Petra Kvitova (CZE #7) vs. Jamie Hampton (USA #54)
Head-to-head:
first meeting
After watching Petra Kvitova's struggles of late, Jamie Hampton will fancy her chances of scoring an upset on Saturday. The ever-improving American has been on a roll in the last few weeks, and if she replicates the mixture of precision and poise that helped outlast Lucie Safarova and cruise past Anna Schmiedlova then she has a real chance of shocking the No.7 seed.

However, as much as Hampton has impressed in the first week, the outcome of this match is likely to depend on which Kvitova turns up. When on song, the Czech's devastating groundstrokes make her near-unplayable on any surface, and if she can build on the form she showed in the latter stages against Peng Shuai in the second round then she will be extremely difficult to beat.

Around the grounds…
Maria Sharapova continues her title defense against Zheng Jie, while the pick of the remaining matches are Marion Bartoli's clash with former champion Francesca Schiavone and Maria Kirilenko against marathon woman Stefanie Voegele.
