WTA Diary: Petko's Back & Serena's Stats
Andrea Petkovic

Every week there's a lot happening on the WTA - on the court, off the court, by the numbers, even a few tweets... catch up on it all in this week's WTA Diary.

On The Up
It's been a lean couple of years for Andrea Petkovic, who has endured one injury woe after another. But, now back to full fitness, the green shoots of recovery have begun to sprout; last week she destroyed a strong field to win in Marseille on the ITF Circuit and on Wednesday she scored an even more impressive straight set win over compatriot and No.4 seed Julia Goerges in Nürnberg.

So happy! First title after injuries.... lalala

And in case she wasn't feeling chipper enough, the All-England Club has just announced Petkovic will be getting a wildcard for Wimbledon.

Tea At Buckingham Palace
Another wildcard recipient is Anne Keothavong, whose quintessentially British blog from Birmingham this week has taken in garden parties (with the Queen, obviously), cupcakes and Wimbledon.

Good Company
It may have happened on Saturday, but it would be rude not to mention Serena Williams' acceptance into a rather exclusive club. Williams' 64 64 win over Maria Sharapova in the French Open final saw her become just the fourth player in the Open Era to have won each major two times or more.

An Inspiration
Other than joining Steffi, Martina and Chris in their exclusive club, here's a quick rundown of what Serena's victory means in the historical scheme of things. Inspirational numbers to tennis aficionados and pop stars alike.

It's A Numbers Game
Serena may have taken home the trophy, but did you know the speed of her fastest serve? And who was the unfortunate recipient? Click here and all shall be revealed.

Dressed To Impress
Have you been wondering what garb Serena, Maria and the rest of the Nike crew will be sporting later this month at SW19? Well, wonder no longer.

The Moneymaker(s)
As well as breaking through into the big time on the court, 2012 saw Victoria Azarenka take home more money - $7.9 million - than any other female athlete. Not far behind was Serena Williams, who took home a cool $7 million.

When factoring in off-court earnings, though, a certain Ms Sharapova leads the way, according to Forbes, who crowned her the top-earning female athlete for the ninth straight year.
