Halep's Maiden Title
Three times a runner-up previously, Simona Halep secured her first WTA title at the inaugural NÜRNBERGER Versicherungscup 2013 by beating Andrea Petkovic in Saturday's final.

In so doing, Halep became the eighth Romanian WTA titlist after Virginia Ruzici, Irina Spirlea, Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie, Sorana Cirstea, Alexandra Dulgheru, Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu. She also joined Niculescu as one of five first-time WTA titlists this year:
Elena Vesnina: Hobart
Marina Erakovic: Memphis
Karolina Pliskova: Kuala Lumpur
Monica Niculescu: Florianopolis
Simona Halep: Nürnberg

Hantuchova Nets Birmingham Title
Appearing in her third WTA grass court final, Daniela Hantuchova picked up her first title on the surface and sixth overall by defeating 16-year-old Donna Vekic in Sunday's final.

It was a tough road to the title, as Hantuchova came back from a set down in the third round, quarterfinals and semifinals. In fact, in the third round against Kristina Mladenovic, the Slovakian was two points from defeat in the second set, and in the quarterfinals against Francesca Schiavone rallied from a 4-1 second set deficit and 3-0 third set deficit.

Birmingham was Hantuchova's first title since turning 30 in April and added her to the list of 30+ players to capture a WTA title this year:
Serena Williams: Brisbane, Miami, Charleston, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros
Li Na: Shenzhen
Roberta Vinci: Katowice
Francesca Schiavone: Marrakech
Daniela Hantuchova: Birmingham
