LONDON, England - Following their remarkable finish to 2012, this season has been a bit of a reality check for Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.

Coming into Wimbledon the Czech duo had won just nine matches, a far cry from the sequence of seven straight finals they produced in the second half of 2012.

That run began at Wimbledon, where they finished runner-up to the Williams sisters. And judging by their quick-fire 61 61 win over Jana Cepelova and Oksana Kalashnikova, they are clicking into top gear once again in south-west London.

Hlavackova and Hradecka, the No.2 seeds this fortnight, required just 35 minutes to book their place in the third round, where they will face Carla Suárez Navarro and Sílvia Soler-Espinosa.

Also enjoying a smooth passage through were top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci. Over the past 18 months, the Italians have established themselves as the team to beat on tour, winning three of the past five majors.

One of their few failures came at Wimbledon 12 months ago, where they lost in the quarterfinals to Hlavackova and Hradecka. However, they look intent on going deeper this time, marching past Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova and into the third round, 62 63.

Also dodging the rain long enough to progress on Friday were No.5 seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears and Australia's Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua, both of whom registered straight set wins.
