BAKU, Azerbaijan - Seventeen-year-old Donna Vekic, the youngest player in the Top 100, had the rare occurrence of playing someone younger than herself in the first round of the Baku Cup on Monday and made short work of her.

Vekic's results have been up and down the past few months, consisting of an ITF Women's Circuit title in Istanbul, a qualifying loss in Madrid, a first round loss at Roland Garros, a runner-up showing at Birmingham and a first round loss at Wimbledon. That was enough for her to establish her career-high ranking of No.62 last week, though she fell two spots this week.

Vekic looked poised for another deep run with a 61 60, 39-minute rout of 15-year-old wildcard Nazrin Jafarova. The second-seeded Croat converted on five of six break point chances and never faced one on her own serve, in fact winning 15 of 16 points on her serve.

No.4 seed Alexandra Cadantu was a 26 60 63 victor over Michaella Krajicek in a rollercoaster match. After losing the first set convincingly, Cadantu surrendered just eight points in the second set, then fell in a 3-0 hole in the third set before reeling off six straight games to seal it.

Recording the first WTA main draw match wins of their careers were Tadeja Majeric and Ons Jabeur. Majeric got the best of fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova, 75 64, while Jabeur converted on all six of her break point opportunities in her 64 60 defeat of Daria Gavrilova.

Final round qualifying winners were Magda Linette, Kateryna Kozlova, Tetyana Arefyeva, Veronika Kapshay, Oksana Kalashnikova and Tereza Martincova.

Among those in first round action Tuesday are defending champion Bojana Jovanovski and her victim in last year's final, Julia Cohen. Jovanovski will be contesting her first WTA event as a No.1 seed.
