Madison's Sparkling Stanford Debut

From her first WTA event as a Top 50 player to joining Twitter and some great pics from her photo shoot around the Stanford University campus, Madison Keys has been making a splash this week.

STANFORD, CA, USA - She's been the talk of the tennis world this year - first three WTA quarterfinals, first Top 5 win, now the youngest player in the Top 50 - Madison Keys has so much going for her, and after a little bit of a break, the American teenager has been making a splash in Stanford this week.

After a very strong grass court season that culminated in a narrow defeat to World No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska in the third round of Wimbledon, Keys - who is just 18 - felt like she needed a break.

"I took a week off after Wimbledon," Keys said. "I slept in until whenever I wanted, went to the pool a lot, did a lot of tanning - so not much really! But after a couple days I was ready to get back at it."

Exactly how much did she sleep in those first few days? "I'm actually a really good sleeper. So when I say sleep in, I mean at least 10:30. So I actually got to have a couple days of that. It was great."

But as she said, it wasn't too long before Keys returned to the practice courts, and having broken the Top 50 for the first time after Wimbledon, she is now playing her first event as a Top 50 player.

"It's really exciting," Keys said of the breakthrough. "I really hope I can stay up here."

This will be Keys' first real crack at the Emirates Airline US Open Series - she has played a couple of main draws in this stretch before, but this time she will be a contender wherever she goes.

"I'm excited to be in the US," she said. "I've had a really good year and I want to keep it up."

The Top 50 ranking, being back in the US - that's not all Keys is excited about these days. "I joined Twitter a couple days ago!" she said. "It's a little overwhelming, but I'm getting used to it. I had never been on Twitter, and then all of a sudden there were like four or five fake profiles of me, and my agent and my team came to me and said, 'Why don't we have one that's actually you?' So here I am."
